Anyone can be a victim of abuse, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and age.
It is not always easy to tell if you are being abused. Abusers may try and convince you that their actions are out of love or not that bad. They may manipulate you and make you believe the abuse is your fault.
It is not your fault.
You deserve to feel safe and loved in a relationship. Your feelings and safety are important.
Check for signs of abuse:
- you feel scared of them
- you have been isolated from your loved ones
- they have hurt you or people you care about
- they have threatened to hurt you
- they have taken control of all your finances
- they have threatened to take your children away
- they constantly track and follow you, including online
- they are extremely jealous and possessive
- they constantly humiliate, insult, and criticise you
- they prevent you from going to work or school
- they blame you for the abuse
